Northern Lights

Splendor and majesty are before Him,
Strength and beauty are in His sanctuary.
Psalm 96:6

Editor’s note: I apologize for missing a couple of weeks. Sometimes a suitable topic just doesn’t come to mind, but I will keep working on it.

We live in central Canada and have the opportunity, especially in the winter, to view the northern lights. If you’ve never had the chance to see them, you have missed out on one of the most beautiful creations that God gives us. I hope that you have the opportunity to see them some time in the future.

The lights are caused by energy coming from the Sun interacting with our atmosphere. At least that is how science explains it. And that is true, but we have to remember that God is in control and it is His power that controls the Sun.

People travel from all over the world to northern Canada to experience the northern lights and we tend to take them for granted. It is only during a lonely drive during a dark winter night that I really appreciate the lights anymore and that is sad. In fact as we look around at this beautiful world that God created, we often take it for granted.

All around us, no matter the season, God’s creation is on display. From the beautiful green trees in the spring and summer, to the multitude of colours we see in the fall, we see His hands at work. And again in the new life in the animals in spring and watching them mature through the seasons, His work is everywhere.

A dark summer sky provides us with an opportunity to look up to the stars and see the millions of possible worlds that exist and could also support life. Do we really believe that our loving God only put life on one planet in this whole immense universe? I have always believed there is life out there and someday we will be able to communicate with them.

We need to appreciate all that He gave us. We need to nurture it and care for it as He commanded Adam in the Garden of Eden. This world is our gift from Him, and all the beauty He created is there for us to enjoy. Don’t forget to look up once in a while and experience what He gave us.

God bless
