God’s Gifts – Day 3

Day 3 – Food

Back to the beginning of time, we’ve needed to eat, and it still continues to be a requirement today. If we’re in good health, we can go without food for quite some time as long as we stay hydrated.  Some animals go months without eating and continue to thrive.  But eventually every living creature needs some sort of sustenance.

What we eat is very interesting though.  In the Garden of Eden, God gave all the plants as food to Adam and Eve, as told in Genesis 1:29:

And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in which is the fruit of a tree yeilding seed, to you it shall be for meat.

Note that God gives all the plants for food (except for the Tree of knowledge of good and evil.  There is no mention of eating animals, that doesn’t happen until after The Flood. In Genesis 9:3:

Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things.

Originally our diet was plant based, and we lived long, long lives, but once we began to eat meat for food, our life span dimished.  God wanted us to eat a healthy plant-based diet.

[Disclaimer: I do not claim to be a vegetarian or vegan, just pointing out what The Bible tells us]

Tomorrow is about possibly the second greatest gift, love.
