Stewards

Build houses and dwell in them; plant gardens and eat their fruit. Take wives and beget sons and daughters; and take wives for your sons and give your daughters to husbands, so that they may bear sons and daughters—that you may be increased there, and not diminished. And seek the peace of the city where I have caused you to be carried away captive, and pray to the LORD for it; for in its peace you will have peace. Jeremiah 29:5-7

When God created the earth and everything upon it, He put one creature in charge of it and that was man. He created a perfect world and then put Adam and Eve onto His creation to take care of the plants and animals. In Genesis 1:28 “Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” He gave man “dominion” over all the living things that are on the earth.

The word dominion means to control, so God gave us control over all the animals, and basically over all of his creation. We are supposed to maintain His world for Him because He cannot be down here with us to look after it. That means that we should keep things on earth as He created it. And sadly that is not the case.

From almost the beginning of time, man has found a way to break God’s perfect creation. It began when Eve took the apple from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil (NOT the Tree of Life as many believe) and went downhill from there. Throughout the generations since, man has found new ways to cause destruction on our planet.

But in the last century and a half there has been more done to harm God’s creation than ever before. Now I realize that one person posting in a tiny blog cannot change the world, but one person can do little things to make this a better place to live. I see every day the things that people do without thinking or caring and it really frustrates me!

As many of you know I used to drive a semi before I became ill, but those days are in the past. One of the things I noticed when I drove semi was how dirty we were. Garbage was thrown just anywhere and truckstops were just disgusting piles of garbage. People would open the doors of their trucks and throw their trash just anywhere. It really annoyed me because there were garbage cans everywhere but people just didn’t use them.

Now this isn’t the first time I have raised this issue, but it obviously bears repeating because nothing has changed. You can find my first post from April 2019 here: Garbage. Maybe take a look at that post and see what my thoughts were then.

Since I am not on the road as much, I don’t encounter the same level of trash as I used to, but I still see it. As I drive down the highway I see McDonald’s bags, KFC boxes and Tim Hortons cups just discarded everywhere! Is it so difficult to just hold onto there things until you get home or stop at a gas station and discard them properly? Why just throw them out on the road?

Our planet is a mess! It’s not just the garbage we see, it’s the garbage we don’t see also, and it is all around us. I’m sure God looks down at us and wonders why He created us sometimes. We really need to think before we act and respect what He gave us. Clean up the garbage and take it home. And if you have any unseen garbage hanging around, get rid of that also.

Jesus is coming soon and we want to welcome Him with open arms in a place He wants to visit. Right now I’m sure He looks and says “I’m just not ready to go there!”

God bless
