There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was blameless and upright, and one who feared God and shunned evil.

On Saturday August 15th, 2020 I took my place at the podium at the front of our church and started my sermon with the verse quoted above. I then went into detail about the trials and troubles of Job. God “allowed” Job to be tested by Satan, and Job never wavered from his faith.
My sermon was entitled “Three Miracles” and told the story of two people I met in hospital, one a stroke patient, they other a GBS patient like me. Their recoveries were nothing short of a miracle and I detail it further in the book that I’m trying to write.
We have a relatively small church but for some odd reason we had a number of visitors at this service. Standing in front of our church that was relatively full, with social distancing, was a little intimidating, but I got started and lost my nervousness. I seemed to reach a lot of people because there were a few tears being shed as I recounted my struggles over the last year.
It’s common in our church for elders or deacons to preach a sermon due to the fact that we share a Pastor with two other churches. I’ve been going to this church for almost six years and I’ve been asked to do sermons many times, but I’ve always been afraid. Well fear didn’t stop me from recounting my journey over the past year.
I have plans to do more sermons in the future, but none will be the same as my first one. I had very little notes written down, just Bible verses and talking points, because my sermon came from the heart. The next time I’ll have to ask for Gods help to get me through it.
