Jesus Is My Co-Pilot

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

Philippians 4:13

Maybe you’ve seen a vehicle driving down the highway with a “ Jesus is my co-pilot” bumper sticker. They used to be more popular in the 70s & 80s, as were bumper stickers in general. But you can still see them on vehicles, especially on those older conversion vans that are still rolling down the highway. But it really makes you wonder who really is driving, if Jesus, the Son of God, is relegated to the co-pilot seat.

I can’t imagine anyone who could do a better job at anything than our Lord and Saviour, but obviously the owner of said vehicle must think themselves very blessed to be able to drive better than Christ. If you consider the quote verse from Philippians, anything we do comes directly from our belief and trust in Christ. So does that mean if I’m better at driving than He is, then it is through His strength that I am. Oh boy now we’ve hit a paradox!

If allowing Christ to guide me makes me better at something than He is, then can that strength come from Him? That kind of thinking is dangerous because those ideas are put in place by the enemy. Some Christian religions have already decided that there are people that are above Christ. And in doing so are duping millions of followers into false ideologies. We must make sure that any beliefs that a church puts forth is fully supported by the scriptures.

Having a major illness like Guillain Barré Syndrome takes its toll on people in multiple ways. Unexpected expenses arise for which there is no coverage. Exodus 20:2-3 reads: “I am the Lord thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt have no other gods before me.” So we cannot have any other gods other than God, Himself. ( And notice the small g vs large G, all other so called gods are not the great I AM!). So if someone either living or dead, places themselves as an equal or higher than God, this is against the First Commandment! There is only ONE GOD!

So where does that leave us with this whole Jesus is my co-pilot thing? It’s actually very easy to fix:

EXACTLY like that. Jesus is NOT my co-pilot, He is my PILOT. He is driving my vehicle and I am just a conduit for His strength as we are told I. Philippians 4:13!

Every time I get behind the wheel I consider that it’s Christ who gives me the ability. As I master a new skill behind the wheel of my semi, I always thank Him for getting me through it. As I navigate through bad weather I remember to thank Him for keeping me, and others safe, and so should you. Our God gives us all ability to do things and we must remember that.

And with this post I end my posts for 2019. This year certainly didn’t turn out the way I expected. I’m going to remain in hospital suffering from Guillain Barré Syndrome until near the end of January 2020. At that point it will have been almost six months in hospital. But as much as I don’t like it, I accept it as part of God’s plan. I feel that there was a reason for me being here and while I may never know the reason, I’m ok with it. My recovery is going well and I was able to take my first assisted steps last week. I’m hoping to be able to walk using a walker soon. With that in mind I hope that you have a joyful and merry Christmas and a safe and wonderful Happy New Year.
