Recently my wife and I have been looking at AirBnb’s as an alternative to hotels or motels when we’re travelling, and we’ve actually booked into two places for upcoming overnight trips, The people put their homes, apartments, condos, or even a single room up for rent and people rent it off the website, These rooms are available all over the world and each listing is unique, Some offer many ammenities incluing hot tubs and exercise rooms to entice people in. Most offer free wifi, and some have some sort of light breakfast. And compared to hotel stays, the price is right.
We’re hopeful that the places we’ve booked fulfill our expectations, but we have faith that the owners are honest and responsible people. I also checked out the reviews before booking and so I’m pretty confident that it will work out, But I still need a little faith.
Faith is a powerful thing, and we need to have faith in our daily lives, but also as we work towards eternity. Jesus tells us in John 14: 2-3: “In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go to prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.” So Jesus assures us that He is going to heaven to prepare a mansion for us, not a tent, or a shack, or even a house, He is going to prepare a mansion.
Now when we envision a mansion here on earth, we think of a grand building that is out of reach for most of us unless we win the lottery. But its easy to win God’s lottery! He asks us to believe and to follow him: John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him shall not perish, but have everlasting life” That is not just a statement, it is a promise and God keeps His promises. It is not within God’s character to lie or deceive you So if He tells us that He has a mansion for us then we must believe Him.
But it gets better! God is not only going to provide the perfect mansion for us, He is also going to provide us with an incredible food supply, even though we won’t need food. And in addition, because we won’t need food, if you choose to eat it, it will be perfect, wasteless, and it will also not go to your waist! God tells us about this perfect food and He showed it to the Apostle John in Revelation 22:1-2: “And He shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the Throne of God and of the mouth of the Lamb. In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yeilded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.”
Do you see that promise? A tree that yields a different fruit each month for twelve months! That would be an incredible tree to have growing in your back yard, but we have to wait until we see God’s Kingdom to see this tree. But it will be worth the wait. We spend but a short time on this damaged and sinful earth, but we’ll spend eternity in a perfect, pure and sinless heaven, with Jesus, God and all His angels.
So as I started this post, as I looked on AirBnB for the perfect place to spend a few days away from home, I think I’ve found it, but more importantly I’m also looking for the perfect place to spend eternity, and God has shown me the way to find that. And that way is Jesus!
God Bless
